Help Birds Beat the Heat by Building Birdhouses Using Scrap Materials

Summers are the most dreaded season especially in this part of the world. Temperatures soar beyond 50°C/122°F and cause havoc not only among humans but birds as well. The hot and sultry climate is arguably the toughest for birds who find it hard to keep themselves properly hydrated due to lack of water and at the same time hardly find any shady place to take rest. Hence, we humans should take note of this and try our best to protect and help these poor birds by providing water and shelter for them. In fact, try and do one better and build a birdhouse for these chirpy creatures. Make use of the unused materials that lay strewn in your backyard or storehouse and build a birdhouse today.

Building Birdhouses with Scrap Materials

Here are some ways in which you can make use of the scrap materials in your home to build a nice and lovely birdhouse for the birds to beat the treacherous heat.

Milk CartonsWhy waste milk cartons when you use them to build a beautiful birdhouse? A little effort will be required but trust us, it is worth it.

Things to Do

  • Cut a big circle on one side of the carton.
  • Decorate the carton to make it lively.
  • Close the carton flaps, make two holes on either side and then use a rope or wire to hang it in your front yard or any place suitable.
  • Place a bowl of fresh water beside it.

BambooThese are items you’ll surely find in your backyard. Use them to build a   birdhouse.

Things to Do

  • Cut out a decent length of bamboo from the entire bamboo stick.
  • Carve out a hole so that the birds can perch on it.
  • Make a tiny hole at the top and place a hook through it.
  • Hang the bamboo birdhouse outside.
  • Don’t forget to keep a bowl of clean water near it.

Shoe BoxAn empty shoe box can make a great birdhouse and provide ample shelter. Here’s how you can turn a shoe box into a pretty birdhouse.

Things to Do

  • Carve a hole out on any one of the four corners of the shoe box.
  • Wrap the entire shoebox with a colorful piece of paper.
  • Make small holes on all four sides and place a rope or wire through them.
  • Once done, place the shoe box birdhouse outside.
  • Keep a small bowl of fresh water.

As you can see how unused materials can come in handy. So make sure you collect them because who knows when you may require such things. Meanwhile, ensure you build a birdhouse for birds because these poor creatures are in dire need of water and shelter especially during the extreme humid season.
