Halloween is the spookiest holiday of the whole year, celebrated by millions. It is among the top holidays celebrated in the world and it’s becoming popular in South Africa as well. We are catching up with the pumpkin carving, costume-wearing, and trick-or-treating traditions as well. Children readily grab this chance to dress up and wander around the neighborhood asking for candies. This brings excitement to our pets too, so here is a guide on how to throw paw-sibly the most fun party for your dog.
Safety First!
Holidays can be fun but they are loud and full of people, which can be stressful for your dog. They might become aggressive or be too scared and hide in a corner. During such times make sure that your dog feels secure. Be around them whenever new people come over. You can also use some dog anxiety treatments to aid in keeping them calm, like Calmeze or Anxitane. To make your canine companion get a feel of the occasion, throwing a dog-themed party seems like a good idea. This will also give you a reason to bring together the whole community and enjoy the holiday.
Getting Party Ready!
What is a party without treats? Bake some dog-friendly biscuits and treats for your pooch and their other canine friends. Shape them into fun shapes like bones, pumpkins, or stars. If this seems like a too tedious task, you can just buy dog treats from the store. You can also make it a costume party; dress up your doggo in the spookiest costume.
Decorate the Place!
Once you’ve decided the party location, start decorating! Plastic dog skeletons, pumpkins, and bones are the best decorative items to get started with. You can get creative with any décor and make it as fun as paw-sible for your furry friends. You can also get a pool half filled with the most popular dog toys and let your pets go crazy playing with those.
Let the Games Begin!
Plan different pet-friendly games to keep your fur-buddies entertained. Engage your pets in fun games to make this party fur-bulous!
Costume Contest- Dress up your dog and make sure to tell your guests to dress their canines in Halloween-themed costumes. The most creative dog costume will get extra treats! Remember not all dogs like to dress up. Skip this if your dog feels uncomfortable.
Bobbing for Tennis Balls - A doggy twist on the classic party game. Fill up a bucket with water and drop as many tennis balls as you like. Set a timer and turn-by-turn take dogs to go bob for tennis balls.
Treat Hunting- Get your dog’s sensitive nose working! Hide some treats at different places in your house and let your dogs sniff those out!
Trick-or-treat- A twist to the original trick-or-treat; get your dogs to perform their best tricks. Make a person judge this contest and the best dog can get treats as a winning prize!
Send your human and furry friends back home with goodie bags! There you have it, a fun way to celebrate Halloween with your furry friends. Happy Halloween!
